Alex’s Story

I was spending hours at night studying, but I still wasn’t getting good grades. My mom didn’t believe I was actually studying and would get mad at me for “putzing”, but I wasn’t. I was reading my notes over and over, but I still couldn’t get good grades. I thought I got it while I was studying, but the test was always completely different than I thought it would be. It wasn’t fair!

I talked to my teachers and they explained that I should study for understanding. They explained what that meant, but nobody had the time to show me how. I met with Mindset and we determined that I needed to adjust how I studied. They set me up with an academic coach. At first, I didn’t want to do what she told me to do. It seemed like a lot of work and I thought it wasn’t going to help. I agreed to try it for one subject, history. I found I didn’t study as hard, but I still did 12 points better than I usually do! I started following the coach’s advice and my GPA went up 1.3 points from last semester! I now have time at night to study and then go on Facebook!
